What is a Christian Lifestyle?

When I used to hear the phrase “Christian Lifestyle” I used to think “here comes another boring stuck up person telling me what I cannot do.” Then the feeling of wanting to run the other direction when some random stranger is handing out bibles (especially when I was in college.)

As I matured in my walk, I learned a few things that I want to share with you all.

Here are a few tips about the lifestyle:

  • Christians believe in Jesus as their personal savior.
  • The objective of the lifestyle is to honor ourselves as a temple while having the love for others and our environment.
  • Christians are supposed to demonstrate their faith everywhere they go. I used to go the Gym and not speak to anyone. Somehow people started picking up conversations with me. It didn’t matter what I initially wanted to do, I had to represent my religion.
  • Obviously, you don’t throw a bible and holy water at someone screaming “repent or you’re going to hell!”  Jesus says the most important part of a Christian lifestyle is love for others (Mark 12:30-31.) In another scripture, it explains what love is (1 Corinthians 13.) Having respect and compassion for others is what being a Christian is all about. How you treat yourself and others is a reflection of how much you allow God to move in your life. Another thing I want to point out is no you don’t have to be perfect. Your heart is the first thing you should focus on – it will change everything else (Proverbs 4:23)
  • There are several reasons why walking with Jesus is such a great thing. If I had one sentence to say it would be: “he is the source that fulfills all needs.”

I try to write from my own experiences. I hope my examples will influence your personal walk in Christianity.

Dear World,

A good name is to be chosen over great wealth;
favor is better than silver and gold.

Rich and poor have this in common:
the Lord makes them all.

A sensible person sees danger and takes cover,
but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.

Humility, the fear of the Lord,
results in wealth, honor, and life.

There are thorns and snares on the way of the crooked;
the one who guards himself stays far from them.

Start a youth out on his way;
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.

The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is a slave to the lender.

The one who sows injustice will reap disaster,
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

A generous person will be blessed,
for he shares his food with the poor.

10 Drive out a mocker, and conflict goes too;
then quarreling and dishonor will cease.

11 The one who loves a pure heart
and gracious lips—the king is his friend.

12 The Lord’s eyes keep watch over knowledge,
but he overthrows the words of the treacherous.

13 The slacker says, “There’s a lion outside!
I’ll be killed in the public square!”

14 The mouth of the forbidden woman is a deep pit;
a man cursed by the Lord will fall into it.

15 Foolishness is bound to the heart of a youth;
a rod of discipline will separate it from him.

16 Oppressing the poor to enrich oneself,
and giving to the rich—both lead only to poverty.

25 Year Old Lessons

How many times must we choose to be good? Like me, Amaziah is 25 trying to do the right thing.

Amaziah attempts to follow the law without much effectiveness. When he tries to fund his vision with a strong army,  a wise man advises Amaziah that God is not with his investment.

Amaziah becomes scared of all that he will lose. He is unsure of what he should do. The man of God says not to worry because there is a bigger supply from the main source than there is in money.

As the story continues, the leader did not die in peace. Amaziah was put to death by his enemies.

Here are key points to remember.

  1. Develop a pure heart for God. No, you don’t have to perfect; but please examine your heart & intentions in all that you do.
  2. When we sin – it weakens our effectiveness. Thank God for Jesus who gives us all mercy and grace.
  3. Materialistic supply (ie money, cars, homes, etc.) does not make up for sin and evil.
  4. Be sure of how you treat people. Resentment & bitterness can turn into a serious issue such as preying on your weaknesses.
  5. Sometimes Gods wants us to be patient so that we receive blessings that will benefit us in the long run.

Jesus Had a Favorite Book?

After doing my morning prayer, I began searching for bible scriptures. Somehow I became fascinated with the book Deuteronomy. What a coincidence! I figure out that this was Jesus most quoted old testament reference.

Deuteronomy was written by moses once he helped free the slaves. The book was a set of laws given so everyone could live their best life.

Once Jesus began to develop in his spiritual gifts, he went into the wilderness for isolation. Satan tempted Jesus, but he used this Old Testament book to make him flee.

  • But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4:4

  • Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”  Matthew 4:7

  • Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” Matthew 4:10

How amazing is it Jesus used the Old Testament for power? But oh – it get’s better. Jesus Used this book to make clear the most important commandment of them all.

You must love the Lord your God with your whole mind, your whole being, and all your strength Deuteronomy 6:5

Why is it important to love the God with all of you heart? If he made everything can’t we love other things first?

When you trust and love God – he will give you a peace through any situation. You don’t have to understand or worry about the next phase in your life because it will already be taken care.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

So I think it’s safe to say this one of Jesus’s favorite Old Testament books.

The Prince of Peace

Isaiah is named “one of the most powerful books in the old testament.” Hardships and trouble have become part of the norm. With kingdoms in turmoil, a prophet wrote Isaiah to give people hope.

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:5-7

Lets break down each thing:

Wonderful Counselor : a person who gives advice. Jesus was going to guide people out of trouble and help fix their lives.

Mighty God: Not only was he going to lead them out of trouble -it was through the greatest source. Before God’s child was sent – there were only temporary fixes. When God gives a gift – it is everlasting.

“Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your instruction is true.” Psalm 119:142

Eternal Father: Not only was he the savior’s father – he is an “infinite” father. Everything is his child. Because we are all sons and daughters he bless and take care of us. No matter who our earth parents are he is the highest parent.

Prince of Peace : In the New Testament was given a beautiful name : Jesus

What a mighty God we serve. He can deliver us from anything and call us his own. No matter the situation – he will keep his promise and deliver us from any evil.

Anna Witnessed Jesus

The story of Jesus is amazing. There is always something new to learn. Even  when the story is heard every year – something new always pops out. One story people hardly ever mention is the story of Anna.

36 There was also a prophetess, Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well along in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and was a widow for eighty-four years. She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers. 38 At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

In Latin- her name means favor and grace. Anna experienced life, but always stayed connected to God. Even though Jesus was a baby, she recognized the savior. She went out and spoke of the good news so all could experience God’s blessings.

Even during stressful times like the holiday season – it is good to be a part of the holy spirit. Even if it’s by example: we can show the grace and love God has given to us. As they say “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Let’s show this world the representation of Christ!

Jesus: The Basics

Since Christmas is coming up, I thought I would write about the man that changed the game: Jesus. I want to point out bible verses that are not as popular in order to bring it all together.

They were saying, “Isn’t this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” John 6:42

Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary. Joseph was his earth father who helped raised him. He was always the son of God, but matured into his position as he got older.

But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31

Ok let’s break down this verse.

Messiah means the “expected king and deliverer of the Jews”. It also means Jesus was “a professed or accepted leader of some hope or cause” Dictionary Source

From the very beginning with Genesis, there was a lot of turmoil for God’s people. Blood sacrifices and crusades were a part of seeking righteous. God didn’t want to allow this to happen forever so he had a plan. The father sent his son down to save the Jews and everyone who believed in him away from a life that leads to destruction and death.

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true one. We are in the true one—that is, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

“But what is eternal life if we are all going to die?” There are 2 types of deaths – spiritual death and physical death. If you believe in Jesus and follow his ways – your spirit will remain alive. Following the commandments and loving others will give a life of peace and prosperity- which is a lot better than having no hope and feeling like you’re just going through the motions. I know when I followed the world’s ways I always felt stuck in something that was going no where.

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19

When you die a physical death – those who follow Jesus will have a life in heaven with him. It will be an everlasting life of great joy and peace with our creator.

As the week progresses, I will go into more detail – this is a warm up to what I will be writing. I want everyone to enjoy the holiday and remember why we celebrate it in the first place.
