I’m going to speak from my own experiences. I recommend you use my ways for inspiration to find what works for you.
Choosing the right bible version is so important. There was a previous article I wrote about why I chose the CSB version (be sure to find it here on my blog.) You have to find a bible version that you can understand and find love for Christianity. The Christian standard version was not only easy for me to follow but made me feel closer to the creator.
The next step I like to practice is to think of my current problem. I found a 3 dollar book called “Bible Promises Book”. Say I’m dealing with a courage issue. After I look it up in the table of contents, I find the page that lists every single bible verse that deals with this topic. If you are unable to find this book – there is always google to assist you. The general thing people do is start with Genesis. Although that is my favorite book, I recommend starting on a book that deals with your personal struggles. It may take some effort, but trust me it will be worth the work.
If it’s not Genesis, the Gospels are something people read, to begin their plan. This is not a bad approach; Jesus is the reason why Christianity exists. The only downfall I can think of is we may be confused about why Jesus came in the first place. Reading the old testament – or anything that highlights that we were born in sin, can be helpful to understand the purpose of the savior.
No matter how you read the Bible, it is a tool that can help us become closer to the lord. Use your spirt to chose the right place to start.
