What is a Christian Lifestyle?

When I used to hear the phrase “Christian Lifestyle” I used to think “here comes another boring stuck up person telling me what I cannot do.” Then the feeling of wanting to run the other direction when some random stranger is handing out bibles (especially when I was in college.)

As I matured in my walk, I learned a few things that I want to share with you all.

Here are a few tips about the lifestyle:

  • Christians believe in Jesus as their personal savior.
  • The objective of the lifestyle is to honor ourselves as a temple while having the love for others and our environment.
  • Christians are supposed to demonstrate their faith everywhere they go. I used to go the Gym and not speak to anyone. Somehow people started picking up conversations with me. It didn’t matter what I initially wanted to do, I had to represent my religion.
  • Obviously, you don’t throw a bible and holy water at someone screaming “repent or you’re going to hell!”  Jesus says the most important part of a Christian lifestyle is love for others (Mark 12:30-31.) In another scripture, it explains what love is (1 Corinthians 13.) Having respect and compassion for others is what being a Christian is all about. How you treat yourself and others is a reflection of how much you allow God to move in your life. Another thing I want to point out is no you don’t have to be perfect. Your heart is the first thing you should focus on – it will change everything else (Proverbs 4:23)
  • There are several reasons why walking with Jesus is such a great thing. If I had one sentence to say it would be: “he is the source that fulfills all needs.”

I try to write from my own experiences. I hope my examples will influence your personal walk in Christianity.

Being an Adult Update.

[Write and delete] “No that doesn’t sound good.” [Repeat.]

Ugh hello everyone,

If only you knew how hard it is to open with how I’ve really been feeling lately. I’m thinking about my future. My mind is filled with a million and one “I guess I’m an adult now” things.

Then this takes me back to when I ever start anything great in this city. My mom had to force me out of the nest and become a fully able woman. Bored and single I started this blog with a cute puppy I didn’t ask for. All these things were a blessing I didn’t see value in until I looked back over it all.

I’m scared thinking about the future – but I believe God will provide me everything that I need for every moment I have in life. With him all things are possible and I know I will more than okay.

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Joy (Fruit of the Spirit)

In college, I was the annoying friend who always had something positive to say. When our senior project was overwhelming, I was the one uplifting my exhausted friends. It’s not like my life was perfect at that time. It was actually one of the stressful moments I endured in years.

I just ended a 3 years relationship and my parents were looking for me to become an adult. It was a time in my life when I was between the young girl phase trying to transition into a woman. Even though I didn’t know Jesus fully – I had a mustard seed of faith. My belief in God was the only thing that kept me going. My motto became “this is where I am in life and I’m not going to let anxiety ruin my last year of college.”

There is a big difference between happiness and joy. Happiness comes from the result of your current situation. “Hey things are going pretty good, I like my life. I guess I will be happy.”  Joy says “this season may not be what I want but I’m going to enjoy what I have. I’m not going to have a pity party.”

It doesn’t mean you don’t want more out of life or you are just going to sit and let life beat you up. It simply means you have to make the most out of the cards you were dealt.
Maybe you don’t feel good or pretty right now. Maybe situations in life are not going the way you hope them to be. Hey sometimes life isn’t fair and it’s hard. Joy comes from accepting where you are in life and making it work. Joy can sometimes mean making lemonade out of lemons.

The result of having joy is giving God the power to order your steps. I have so much to be thankful for now because I gave my troubles to Jesus. My life isn’t perfect but I’m blessed beyond measure. When you stop to accept what you have and let God handle the rest, the only way to go is up.

10 Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Nehemiah 8:10

The Prince of Peace

Isaiah is named “one of the most powerful books in the old testament.” Hardships and trouble have become part of the norm. With kingdoms in turmoil, a prophet wrote Isaiah to give people hope.

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:5-7

Lets break down each thing:

Wonderful Counselor : a person who gives advice. Jesus was going to guide people out of trouble and help fix their lives.

Mighty God: Not only was he going to lead them out of trouble -it was through the greatest source. Before God’s child was sent – there were only temporary fixes. When God gives a gift – it is everlasting.

“Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your instruction is true.” Psalm 119:142

Eternal Father: Not only was he the savior’s father – he is an “infinite” father. Everything is his child. Because we are all sons and daughters he bless and take care of us. No matter who our earth parents are he is the highest parent.

Prince of Peace : In the New Testament was given a beautiful name : Jesus

What a mighty God we serve. He can deliver us from anything and call us his own. No matter the situation – he will keep his promise and deliver us from any evil.

Anna Witnessed Jesus

The story of Jesus is amazing. There is always something new to learn. Even  when the story is heard every year – something new always pops out. One story people hardly ever mention is the story of Anna.

36 There was also a prophetess, Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well along in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and was a widow for eighty-four years. She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers. 38 At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

In Latin- her name means favor and grace. Anna experienced life, but always stayed connected to God. Even though Jesus was a baby, she recognized the savior. She went out and spoke of the good news so all could experience God’s blessings.

Even during stressful times like the holiday season – it is good to be a part of the holy spirit. Even if it’s by example: we can show the grace and love God has given to us. As they say “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Let’s show this world the representation of Christ!

Bible Verses for Overcoming Challenges

Your life is priceless.  Your are special. You matter. You have special gifts and qualities. Wipe away the doubt and tears. Put on your game face and conquer life.

Now when you go out for the day remember this:

10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. 13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.  Ephesians 6:13

Don’t be afraid.  Those who follow Jesus are given peace and strength to conquer the world.

27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful. Isaiah 41:10

You got this – the lord is your strength. The power of God can conquer all.

Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust him and not be afraid, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is my strengthand my song. He has become my salvation.” Psalm 18:2

Remember – if you fight according to God’s will and purpose for your life, you will always have victory.

Now I know that the Lord gives victory to his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with mighty victories from his right hand. Psalm 20:6

Here is a prayer I want to leave off with

God thank you for giving grace and the spirit to serve you.

I pray that you would protect me and guard my heart from anything that is not of you

I pray that everyone reading this will have peace and fulfilling joy

Please let them know they are worthy of your love and mercy for their lives

Let everything go well for them .

Any doubt or fears they may have I pray they conquer it by the mighty name of Jesus

And I pray as they go through the day they are given constant reminders of your faithful heart

In Jesus Name

Amen
