Dear World,

A good name is to be chosen over great wealth;
favor is better than silver and gold.

Rich and poor have this in common:
the Lord makes them all.

A sensible person sees danger and takes cover,
but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.

Humility, the fear of the Lord,
results in wealth, honor, and life.

There are thorns and snares on the way of the crooked;
the one who guards himself stays far from them.

Start a youth out on his way;
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.

The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is a slave to the lender.

The one who sows injustice will reap disaster,
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

A generous person will be blessed,
for he shares his food with the poor.

10 Drive out a mocker, and conflict goes too;
then quarreling and dishonor will cease.

11 The one who loves a pure heart
and gracious lips—the king is his friend.

12 The Lord’s eyes keep watch over knowledge,
but he overthrows the words of the treacherous.

13 The slacker says, “There’s a lion outside!
I’ll be killed in the public square!”

14 The mouth of the forbidden woman is a deep pit;
a man cursed by the Lord will fall into it.

15 Foolishness is bound to the heart of a youth;
a rod of discipline will separate it from him.

16 Oppressing the poor to enrich oneself,
and giving to the rich—both lead only to poverty.

25 Year Old Lessons

How many times must we choose to be good? Like me, Amaziah is 25 trying to do the right thing.

Amaziah attempts to follow the law without much effectiveness. When he tries to fund his vision with a strong army,  a wise man advises Amaziah that God is not with his investment.

Amaziah becomes scared of all that he will lose. He is unsure of what he should do. The man of God says not to worry because there is a bigger supply from the main source than there is in money.

As the story continues, the leader did not die in peace. Amaziah was put to death by his enemies.

Here are key points to remember.

  1. Develop a pure heart for God. No, you don’t have to perfect; but please examine your heart & intentions in all that you do.
  2. When we sin – it weakens our effectiveness. Thank God for Jesus who gives us all mercy and grace.
  3. Materialistic supply (ie money, cars, homes, etc.) does not make up for sin and evil.
  4. Be sure of how you treat people. Resentment & bitterness can turn into a serious issue such as preying on your weaknesses.
  5. Sometimes Gods wants us to be patient so that we receive blessings that will benefit us in the long run.

Self Control

We have finally come to the end of the road with the fruit of the spirit series. When I tell you this has been a lot of self-control to go all the way with this…

Anyway, this is the last message in this series I promise. If you need any more help with these fruits – please reach out and I will try to make a blog about your request.

Of course, I can go on and on about how my tongue used to have no filter. I could say something “new” about how hitting the gym takes a lot of restraint from giving up in the first part of your body producing sweat. But I want to say something that is so important – yet no one admits. This my friends is free will

We all have choices to make. Big or small ones – it is important that we make the right ones. I feel like in my heart I always know the right one to do. The hard part is sticking to what I know will be good for my life.

My mentor told me this little lesson. “The first time is always the benefit of the doubt. When it happens the second time – you should be paying attention.But when it happens the third time – it’s time to start making some changes.”

My stubborn personality has its benefits. Once I made up my mind – it’s no changing. No matter what people or things may throw at you, please stay focused on what is true. If you know it’s wrong – have the discipline to stay away from temptation.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.

2 Timothy 1:7

An art teacher in my high school gave the class a quote one day – it stuck with me to this day. “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?”

To elaborate I will ask: Would you take more risk? Would you leave an unhealthy circumstance with no answers to what will happen next? Would you be generous with your smile and love? I mean seriously, what would you do?

The fruit of faithfulness is so rebellious of what this world tells you about yourself.

“You know what? I don’t care what you think I deserve or who you think I am. I know I am a child of God and that means all my needs will be met and then some.”

When you walk with the presence of God in your life, you can conquer anything.

35 “‘Then I will raise up a faithful priest for myself. He will do whatever is in my heart and mind. I will establish a lasting dynasty for him, and he will walk before my anointed one for all time.

1 Samuel 2:35

We’ve all been there. You get into an argument with someone. Our first reaction is to start bringing up all of those bad things we think about them. Sure we would never say it to them if we weren’t upset and hurt, but it’s a battle and we have to win.

When I was a young girl in college — saying the first bad thought that came to my mind felt good. “Oh yeah, you want to be hurt my feelings? Well, let’s see how you like this.”

People aren’t perfect – someone will do or say something that you don’t like. I had to start putting myself in other people’s shoes.

Kindness comes from understanding someone’s weaknesses and choosing not to hurt them. It’s easy to call a person out on their insecurities so you feel great for the moment. Everyone has bad days – including you. I wouldn’t want someone to kick me when I’m down, so I try not to do it to others.

Being kind does not mean you can’t be assertive or speak your truth. I mean the truth does set you free (John 8:32). However, when you say what needs to be said, you can be considerate of the another’s circumstances. You may know they are going through this or that – don’t make them feel even worst, no matter how good it feels. Believe me, it will come back to bite you.

Kindness – a fruit that is worth the development.

10 Then he said, “May the Lord bless you, my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before, because you have not pursued younger men, whether rich or poor. Ruth 3:10

Wisdom and Compassion

When I was younger if I felt my ego was being threatened – I could figure out how to punch you with my words. Raw with no filter, some of my words have been unforgettable.

I’m not proud of some of the things I’ve said, it’s really no excuse. As I gotten older I grew wisdom and compassion for others.

“What is Wisdom and compassion? What does that have to do with telling it like it is?”

Knowledge is very powerful. I was blessed with the ability to pick up on people very quickly (ie strengths, weaknesses, etc.)

Over time I had to stop being selfish and taking everything so personal. I had to use my gifts to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Maybe they are having a bad day or sensitive about this topic.

Wisdom is using knowledge as tool to serve God’s purpose. And that’s where compassion comes in.

When Jesus died on the cross. He had compassion for all – even his enemy’s. He knew they were not fully aware of how wrong they were. Instead of using his power for evil – he sacrificed himself.

We must learn to love like Jesus. We all can stand up for ourselves while respecting and loving the enemy.

Conflict does not have to be nasty and spiteful. When I tell people what I will not accept in an assertive loving manner – a peace comes over me.

In conclusion: Do everything with love.

Discretion will watch over you,
and understanding will guard you.

10 Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
